"Suite Francaise" Discussion and Great Food

This was our book group's first time at Sue Albert's home. So, naturally, I walked around taking pictures.

Look what I found on the stove! Chocolate. Yum.

Rice with mushrooms.

A great tasting Beef Bourguignon.
The salad was tossed.
My plate.

Sue passed a huge, heavy platter of profiteroles. The filling was Jell-O vanilla pudding with 2/3 of the milk, and whipped cream folded in, with added sliced almonds, and almond favoring. Then there was the melted chocolate and raspberry jam on top! Man, it was good.
While I am typing this, I am looking at my Tivoed The Biggest Loser. Well, we know I'm not....
This was so good. Hostess, Sue, asked if I cared for a second one. I said since I was only one of two people who had seconds on entrees, I had better pass on the second cream puff!

We had a lively discussion about Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky. Maxine led the discussion which once she gave information about the author, it just took off and had a life of its own. People were impressed by the descriptive writing and story line. Keeping characters straight was an issue for some. Leanna and I each wrote down little cheat sheets that we referred to while we read. Mine was very helpful. Some didn't think the people were that important that they were just a vehicle for the action. I didn't feel that way. It wasn't an easy read, but it was a good one.
