Nice Three Day Weekend at the Beach

Once things warmed up, the weather at the coast President's Weekend was fabulous.

Saturday, while Robert played golf at Agate Beach Golf Course , Jean Watkins and I drove to Newport and then wandered around Nye Beach a bit. Kathy and Don Huster have built these condos on what was once a parking lot. The could be live/work residences with living quarters up above a business space. I haven't been in these, but have seen some of their other developments and I am sure they are finished nicely inside. A few have been purchased already. We went into the Village Market & Deli and waited 30 minutes for sandwiches to go that were mostly bread. I won't go there again. There are lots of great places to stay, eat and shop in that area, however. I love the Toujours women's clothing shop. Some day I plan to stay at my college friend's hotel - The Sylvia Beach Hotel, where rooms are decorated to represent famous authors. The restaurant there, the Table of Contents, is great and so is April's across the street. Neither of which have we been to.

I get a funny feeling that Jean doesn't like me to take her picture and put it on my blog. I could be wrong..... But, Al, her retired salesman husband, he is a different story! Photogenic, isn't he?
They called us up and suggested we go to Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant in Depoe Bay, just a few miles from our places at Bella Beach. We could see the ocean waves from our window, and enjoy the Watkins' company.

Before we went to the Mazatlan Restaurant in Depoe Bay, I went on line and did some quick checking. The first thing that writer Niki Price mentioned is what I suggested Robert order - the Campechana. He loved it!

For most customers at Mazatlan Mexican Restaurants, Campechana is a point-and-order delicacy. Unless they’re from Mexico, they’re usually not acquainted with the soup of octopus and shrimp, cooked in their own juices with tomatoes, avocado and cilantro, and served in a giant margarita glass.

My take on our dinner out at Mazatlan, was that Robert won the prize with the best selection. He was very pleased with with it:

Jean ordered a salad.

My pork was dry and chewy, not what I was expecting....
Al enjoyed his order.

I felt duty bound to order the flan, but didn't like that it had whipped cream on it and the texture was tough. The taste was good, however.
