My friend, Linda, and I went to the movie The Savages today. I thought it was well done and a great study on people with difficulties loving and being close to others due to an unloving childhood. It really is a good film for people to see who want to explore issues with older parents when there are problems with dementia or nursing home placement. The acting was excellent and is on most top ten movies of 2007. If you like to watch Laura Linney or Philip Seymour Hoffman, then go see it.
After the movie we stopped by Kenny & Zukes Delicatessen and I ordered a pastrami/egg salad double decker sandwich along with a cup of borscht. The soup was too thin and couldn't compare to the best I ever have had, which was in Sitka, Alaska where Russians lived, worked and worshiped long ago.
I used to order the pastrami/egg salad sandwich at the original Roses' Deli, so keep trying to find it again. The pastrami was excellent, but the egg salad needed to be cut smaller and way less runny mayo. I told our friendly waiter what I thought and he learned that the owner had told the cook to add more mayo to the egg salad. Her error... and she told him to not charge me for the sandwich! A nice way to treat customers, I must say.
Linda ordered a chicken liver sandwich, of all things. She loved it! The place is a fun place to stop by and eat or pick up something to go. Linda also took a bagel home to see if it compares to the ones she loved to eat when she lived in New York.
I didn't take my camera with me, so took a picture of the 1/2 sandwich I took home. No one could eat the whole thing!!
