Bay 13 with Friends

Robert's good buddy, Sharon Whitney, and her husband, Dr. Phil Shapiro, came Thursday to our condo to checkout what living in the Pearl would be like. They live in a large house in the west hills and think it is time for a move. They used to live in Manhattan, so know what urban living is about, but we gave them some insight, including the great sight from our windows and deck!
The Pearl has lots of choices for meals, this time we selected Bay 13, a fairly new eating spot nearby. It used to be the Crane building where Robert, walking our dog Bo, would stop and talk with the workers at the rag factory standing outside on their break. Now the factory and the dog are gone. The restaurant has had some mixed reviews, but we thought the food was good.

I started out with a great drink:Pear Blueberry Cosmo Absolut Pear Vodka, Blueberries, White Cranberry
Juice, & Lemon Juice

This (below) tasted as good as it looked. "Halibut Seared over Tarragon Dumplings
w. Mushrooms, Asparagus, Bacon & Cipollini Onions." Robert had one of the featured oysters that they claimed to be medium sized. You could barely see them in their shells. I would hate to guess how small their petite oysters would be. Probably served in a thimble. After the oysters he ate the King Roll - "10 pieces, Tempura Shrimp, Snow Crab, Cucumber, Avocado, Tempura Flake & 4 Sauces."

Phil and Sharon split the beet salad which was happily brought to them on individual plates. It was just the perfect size. Phil enjoyed the Sockeye Salmon and Sharon had the Lamb Braised Shoulder with Red Wine, White Beans & Chard that I had had the week before and recommended to her. She loved it.

Robert and Sharon each had the pear upside down cake.

Phil had the Gelato featured for that night. Berry Cobbler was my choice. It seemed just a bit too sweet for me, but then again, isn't dessert supposed to be sweet?
