Sunday, Mother's Day, instead of going to Ellis Island (been there twice before) I planned to go to the Neue Galerie. It is pronounced "Noy-Ya" to see the work of Gustav Klimt. I had seen a piece on the show on CBS's Sunday Morning.
There was, also, a display of wonderful jewelry by Wiener Weskstatte, (Vienna Workshops).
Below is the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer. You have to stand in front of it. It is mesmerizingly beautiful. There were other pieces, of course, but this was the "Oh Wow!" one.
I had to get back in time for Sunday In The Park With George at 2 pm, so couldn'teat the popular brunch upstairs, so went to the Cafe and had a quick bowl of goulash with potatoes.
On the way to pick up my ticket for Top Girls, I saw Dylan Baker coming out from November's matinee. I had the playbill for Sunday in the Park in my hand, so could hardly ask for his autograph as the others around him were doing.... Sunday in the Park was a visual and aural delight.
I found a place across the street from our hotel to eat dinner. I sat alone and watched the small crowd enjoy beers at the O'Lunney's Irish Times Square Pub. I figured this wasn't the place for my usual white wine or Manhattan drink, so I told the waitress I liked a wheat beer. She brought me, I think, a Blue Moon beer with an orange wedge. It was great!
A few of us went to Top Girls, which starred seven strong women, written by Caryl Churchill. I don't know how to describe the story line, so just read this NY Times review here. I liked it, but the first scene was difficult to hear and follow. Lots of talk overs and thick accents, but still fun to watch.
