Dinner at Home of Oregon's Consul General for Japan

The Oregon Consular Corps members were invited to the official residence of the career Consul General for Japan for fellowship and dinner. It was a lovely affair. Oregon has only two career consuls - Japanese and Mexican. All the others are honorary.

The flowering cherry trees on the official residence grounds.

Robert Donaldson, Honorary Consul Emeritus for Korea; Akio Egawa, the Japanese Consul General and our host; and Bill Failing, Honorary Consul for Luxembourg.

Guenther Hoffman, Honorary Consul for Germany and our hostess, the Japanese Consul's wife.
Other Consular Corps members.

Look at how beautiful our soup was!

I don't know what it was, but I ate it. I think a tofu or fish cake. The colorful little round things were a mystery to me, but I think they are there just to add color.
This was shrimp in a wonderful sauce.

Lettuce with dried fish on top for the salad.

Fabulous tempera.

I had a fun time filling my plate with all the great offerings.

I, naturally, had a portion of each dessert, except the cheese platter.

Timid eaters missed what I think was the best of the three desserts. This had green tea tofu tortilla-like layers to a ice cream and mango filled dessert.

How the entry area of the official Japanese Consul residence looked at night when we left.
