Dinner and Play

A group I am in, called Curtain Call, went to dinner at West Cafe at the corner of 12th and Jefferson before going to a PSU play at Lincoln Hall. The play was Savage in Limbo. We enjoyed the one hour production well acted by Portland State University students.

As described by Dramatists Play Service, Inc. :Savages in Lombo is "an arresting and brilliantly inventive play which moves from comedy to near tragedy as it explores the hopes and dreams of a group of rootless young "losers" who congregate in an anonymous Bronx bar, hoping to find respite from the drabness of their lives."

Prior to the play, however, we met at West Cafe, where Eileen had been about six times before, but it was new to the rest of us and not crowded, and they took reservations.

In the background is Barbara's Pomegranate Black Pepper Margarita - Sauza gold tequila, triple sec, pomegranate, lime and orange juices, muddled with lime and cracked pepper, served on the rocks with a cayenne-sugared rim.
I had the Basil Pear Martini - Three Olives Classic vodka, fresh basil, pear puree and confectioner's sugar.

I had Mediterranean vegetable and white bean cassoulet, slowly braised with artichoke hearts, fennel, red onions and tomatoes.

Barbara Alberty ordered cumin lime rubbed pan-seared halibut served over brown rice pilaf with green apple saute and broccoli.

Linda Stern had the grilled meatloaf plate over mashed potatoes with homemade gravy and vegetable of the day.

Eileen Elliott ate the wild mushroom lasagna layered with winter greens, fontina cheese, roasted red peppers, and leeks served with a roasted chestnut cream.

Robert joined us for dinner and ordered banana leaf wrapped slow roast pork seasoned with garlic, ginger and soy served with Thai red curry sauce, brown rice pilaf and vegetable of the day.
