Stu and Joan's Party at the Coast

This was the show stopper! Guest, Jules, made these little numbers. Bacon wrapped sausage slices with a brown sugar soak.

A blurry picture of Robert, our hostess Joan Miller and her daughter. I think I need to read the directions for my new camera.

A card player's necklace.

Jules made these little edible wreaths out of corn flakes, dyed whipped marshmallow goo and red-hots. They were striking. Must have been labor intensive....
I have the recipe below from Joan for the coconut/cranberry cookies (on the sides). They were some of the best I've ever eaten.

COCONUT CRANBERRY CHEWS

MAKES ABOUT 6 DOZEN COOKIES

3/4 pound butter
2 cups sugar
1 TB grated orange peel (I can't taste the orange peel.)
3 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups dried cranberries
1 1/2 cups sweetened flakes dried coconut

1. In a large bowl with mixer on medium speed, beat butter, sugar, orange peel, and vanilla until smooth.
2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to butter mixture. Stir to mix, then beat at low speed until dough comes together about 5 minutes. Mix in cranberries and coconut.
Shape dough into 1 inch balls, and place about 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
3. Bake at 350. Bake until edges begin to brown, about 8 to 11 minutes. Shorter baking time will yield a a chewier cookie; longer time will yield a crispier cookie. Let cookies cool on sheets for 5 minute. Then move to a rack to cool.
