Rewarding Governor's Gold Awards

Our Key Bank private banker, Steve Gray, asked us to be guests at his table at the Governor's Gold Awards Friday night. We didn't know what exactly we were going to, but we sure were glad we went. First, we went to a private party held in the Sky View Terrace at the Portland Convention Center. It is up in the tall towers you see in the skyline. It was packed. We rode the elevator with past Gov. Barbara Roberts, who later we discovered was a good friend of people we met from the Grand Ronde Tribe. She used to live near where the Casino is located now. Steve's wife Marylu enjoyed meeting everyone.

The first person we recognized at the pre-function party was Chris Mercier, who past Chief of the Grand Ronde Tribe. We went to Korea with him along with the Yamhill County group a year and a half ago. Here he is with his date.

Gov. Barbara Roberts enjoyed talking with old friends and new.

The center pieces were huge glass containers of water with a tall orchid stem immersed inside, with source of light and shade above. It was really cool.

We were served TWO entrees! On the left was a large piece of salmon and on the left a huge stuffed chicken piece. These were placed over potatoes, some vegetables and a yummy sauce. I tell myself over and over again, that I should pack ziplock bags in my purse. You never know when you could take some leftovers home! The convention wasn't set up for 'take home'.

Dessert.

Steve Dunn, KATU tv anchor, was our Master of Ceremonies. I took this picture from our front row table! Table number 9, out of 100's. We felt special.

Governor Ted Kulongoski has the Gold Awards to honor and raise money for the Oregon Special Olympics. Many there bid to give various amounts of money to help continue the Oregon Olympics. Robert raised his arm to commit his law firm Black Helterline to add to the total $90,000 raised this night.
