I laughed so hard, long and loud at David Sedaris tonight that my face hurt! Robert smiles and chuckles, but I guffaw. This was the second time we had seen him. He was in town for an "extra" with the Portland Arts & Lecture Series. They sold out the Keller. Normally, they are at the Schnitz, a smaller venue. When we got there, an hour early, the line went around the corner to the end of the block. We had GOLD tickets and were in the third row. The didn't have assigned seats, but areas when you could sit, depending on the ticket you purchased. So, you still had to treat your ticket as a general admission. Up close, we could see him smile and react to the audience when he read some of his new stories. He doesn't read from his published books. He likes to read from works in progress. He did, however, read from an article he said was in last month's New Yorker. He said that he will be turning in his soon to be completed book to his publisher in January. It takes a long time before they go to print. Why it takes so long, he doesn't understand.
Afterwards we got to go upstairs to the first balcony and enjoy fruit, chocolate desserts, coffee and sodas. We just had to flash our tickets. My friend, Mary Shaw, joined us.
