What A Night; Ba Da BOOM!
Tonight, I called up my neighbor and convinced her to join me for a quick walk down to the Tom McCall Waterfront Park to see the fireworks at the end of the Oregon Symphony free concert. When I learned they were going to do the 1812 Overture, I knew I wanted to give it a try. She didn't like walking as fast as I wanted to go so we would slow down, but as it turned out it was perfect timing. We totally forgot about the ending of the Tchaikovsky piece until in the middle of our path, roped off, were cannons! Only at that point could we even hear the orchestra. Sure enough, just as we approached, off went the cannons. It was a lot of fun to be right there. Once the overture was over, we zoomed from under the Burnside bridge and could see the fireworks that lasted at least 20 minutes, probably 30.
The barge as it heads home after being the staging area for the fireworks.
As we walked back to the condo we could see the cannons up close. The reserves were about ready to haul them away.
