I Saw Six Vessels Leaving Portland

I thought I had seen all the ships leave, but while talking on the phone with my sister-in-law Grete Ebert, I saw that the steel bridge was up. I grabbed my stuff and headed to the area in front of our elevators and proceeded to take pictures of the Hawaiian Chieftain and Lady Washington, two tall sailing ship, as they went under the Broadway Bridge. Their sails were folded up so they could steer straight with engine power.

I didn't get up early to keep a look-out for the ships leaving, so thought I might have missed most of them. As luck would have it, I would either see the bridges going up or hear a couple of loud blasts from a ship, so I'd know to watch out. I hope sometime to ride on a ship as it comes in from Astoria. I used our great Canon 12x36 IS II 5' binoculars that Scott and Shana gave us to look at the people on deck. As you can tell, I get a big kick out of it all.
